The Caribbean Review of Books (CRB) is an online magazine covering Caribbean literature and arts. We focus on reviews of new and recent books of Caribbean fiction, poems, biography, arts, culture, and current affairs, but the CRB also publishes new writing, interviews, and essays on literature and culture.

The original CRB was published from 1991 to 1994 by the University of the West Indies Publishers’ Association in Mona, Jamaica, and edited by Samuel B. Bandara. (You can read those issues in the Digital Library of the Caribbean.)

In May 2004, the CRB was revived by a team of writers and editors based at Media and Editorial Projects (MEP) in Port of Spain, Trinidad. Our last print edition was published in 2009. In 2010, the CRB was relaunched as an online magazine. In 2013, the CRB began a partnership with the Bocas Lit Fest, Trinidad and Tobago’s annual literary festival.

The magazine is currently published online, with new content appearing weekly or fortnightly. It is free to all readers.

Writing for the CRB

We welcome unsolicited fiction and poems, and letters to the editor. All submissions may be edited for length and clarity. If you are interested in writing reviews for the magazine, please contact the editor at

Submitting books for review

The CRB reviews new and recent Caribbean books — about the Caribbean or by Caribbean authors — for an audience of general readers. We are particularly interested in literary fiction, poetry, biography, history, politics and current affairs, arts and culture, and other general non-fiction titles. We review scholarly or academic titles only when these are likely to be of interest to non-specialist readers. We do not review textbooks, how-to books, or children’s books.

If you are a publisher of Caribbean books and would like to submit a title for consideration to the CRB, please send a copy to:

The Editor
The Caribbean Review of Books

St Ann’s, Port of Spain
Trinidad and Tobago

Please send new or recent titles only (no more than six months old). We prefer to receive review titles in advance of publication; we are happy to read bound galleys or proofs. Each title should be accompanied by a cover sheet or letter clearly listing the title, subtitle, author’s name, publisher’s name and full contact information, publication date, price, number of pages in the finished book, and ISBN. A biography of the author is always helpful.

The CRB aims to review as many books, with as wide a range of subjects, as possible, but of course not every review title sent to us can be covered. If you are unsure whether your title would be of interest to the CRB, please send us an email, with the text “CRB Query” in the subject line.
